Hakone Yosegi Zaiku

One of my students took a trip with his family and he brought me back this beautiful wood bookmark.

This Japanese craft is unique to Hakone and has been designated as the traditional handcraft by the Minister of International Trade and Industry. You can see photos and read how this technique is done on the website here.  I am very pleased with my gift and will treasure it.

I always found marquetry fascinating. The colors of the different woods are lovely.
